Loaves & Fishes Receives Food & Funds from Dixon Hughes Goodman LLC

GREENVILLE, SC (July 26, 2018) – Dixon Hughes Goodman has made a tremendous impact on the food rescue scene in Greenville County. The local Certified Public Accountants and Advisors have donated more than $11,000 and 1,000 pounds of non-perishable food to Loaves & Fishes as part of their corporate Count the Cans campaign. They were joined in their efforts by Dixon Hughes Goodman offices across twelve states.

Unlike most food drives that take place during the holiday season, DHG holds its annual campaign at the beginning of the summer in response to an increased need among children in our community. Kids who rely on school breakfasts and lunches face going without during summer break, forcing parents to seek alternative sources for food. “Almost half of kids in Greenville County schools qualify for free or reduced lunch. Summer can mean facing the very real possibility of having too little to eat,” said Loaves & Fishes Executive Director Paulette Dunn. With that in mind, DHG’s Count the Cans campaign focused on nutritional and protein-packed items.

“Count the Cans started in 2011 as a way for DHG to promote teamwork through friendly competition while making an impact on the community. Today, the drive continues to achieve those goals during the summer months when children who rely on school meals are at home,” said Greg Taylor, Office Managing Partner at DHG. “Loaves and Fishes is the perfect organization for our office to partner with for our annual drive. As the only organization in Greenville County that provides free, regularly scheduled deliveries of perishable food, we feel that our donations can have a strong, widespread impact.”
