GREENVILLE, SC: June 12, 2018

Loaves & Fishes food rescue challenged Greenville County law firms to help feed children in Greenville County this summer. 1 in 5 households with children struggles to afford enough food for their families. With over 49% of Greenville County students eligible for free and reduced lunch during the school year, Loaves & Fishes recognizes that in the summer they are not receiving at least those 2 meals regularly. The Feeding Frenzy Food Drive fills a vital summer need and 12 local law firms stepped up to help!

Participating firms included the attorneys at 522 Church Street; Christophillis & Gallivan; Dority Manning; Holder, Padget, Littlejohn; McNair Law Firm; Nelson Mullins; Nexsen Pruet; Turner, Padget; Wilson, Jones & Carter; Womble, Bond, Dickinson; Wyche, P.A. and the U.S. Attorney’s office. Firms competed for 2 awards. The firm that donated the most canned good items per employee was the U.S. Attorney’s office. The Overall Winner, accepting the prized CANNED TROPHY with a combined most canned food items and most funds generated, was Nelson Mullins.

Nelson Mullins was awarded the traveling trophy for the second time in the events’ 4 year history! Loaves & Fishes board member, Jake Cluverius awarded the traveling trophy to Nelson Mullins’ associates to display until next years’ competition. The Feeding Frenzy drive generated over $2,800 in cash donations and 12,829 shelf stable items to support food donations to numerous agencies that Loaves & Fishes’ food rescue serves throughout Greenville County.

“Loaves and Fishes provides a vital service to the Greenville community. We are thrilled to be a part of this friendly competition to help eliminate food insecurity for children and families in our community.” Winston Marosek, Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, LLP.”

In 2017, Loaves & Fishes rescued and delivered 2.3 million pounds of food that was going to be wasted, to those in need, at no charge. The Feeding Frenzy drive assists emergency food pantries to ensure they have enough to provide shelf stable foods to low income families all summer.

“It’s easy to forget kids who are home all summer, possibly missing or skipping meals. The firms who help fill pantry shelves are dedicated and committed to helping fill this need. Loaves & Fishes exists to assist agencies to fill the gaps felt by the working families who struggle with hunger daily,” Paulette Dunn, Loaves & Fishes’ Executive Director.
